Rethinking MATTER: The Tactile

Rethinking MATTER explores the stuff of art; the materials that shape what art can be and do. With this ongoing exhibition series, curators Pamela Grombacher, Nana Bendix Hansen, and Sasha Rose Richter investigate the material turn in contemporary art, asking, how can artistic matter trace our shifting relations with the physical world? 

The Rethinking MATTER exhibition series launched with The Tactile, a show that explored the potential of media to create haptic viewing experiences. Featured artists push the boundaries of traditional materials such as paint, ceramics, paper and video to evoke a sense of touch, inviting viewers to experience different textures, surfaces and spatialities through sight.
